I have a 235 w/dual holleys and langdons hei distributor. I thought that everything was working perfect until I took it out and opened it up. 1st and 2nd it purred went to 3rd and it just bogged down. I pulled over it was running and again in first and second no problem. Only in third and full throttle it bogs out. Any thoughts?

If the engine isn't able to accelerate when you dump the throttle, the venturi velocity slows down, and you lose the vacuum that keeps the fuel flowing through the carb. You need to go to some sort of progressive linkage that allows one carb to open only at higher RPM, or find smaller-bore carbs that won't lose venturi velocity when both are open at low speed. It doesn't matter how much fuel the pump can supply, if the gas can't make it from the float bowl to the air stream in the venturi. Make sure the float level is as high as possible without flooding, as the same symptoms can result from even a slightly low float setting.

I was told that the Holley/Weber carb was a good single carb for the stock cammed 235 and that the Carter/Weber, with a lower cfm, was recommended for use in pairs on a stockish 235.
I'm currently running the C/W pair on my fresh 235 and haven't had any problem when the secondaries kick in. I put on a fuel pressure regulator and gauge and found that 3-3.5 psi made my C/W's happier than full pump pressure.
H.R.L has hit it on the button....a lot depends on the total setup and it just sounds like maybe if you're running the H/W's you're just over-carbed.
