| | | | Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 27 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 27 | Just a quick, easy to answer question for the experts in here. . . but I haven't been driving my truck hardly at all in the past three years, but have been for the last week or so. The problem I encountered is that there seems to be a substantial difference between power the truck previously had, and what I am getting now.
The engine and RPM behave normally, but the best way I can describe it is that there seems to be 'slip' between the engine and drivetrain. There aren't any appreciable noises to accommodate this issue, but when I lay on the gas, the RPM increases normally, but there is barely a response.
As far as the specs are concerned, it's a 350 pulled from a nova ss, 4-barrel carb, new-ish 3- speed tranny, conversion kit.
My gut feeling is that the loss is either with the clutch or transmission somewhere, but I'm really hoping for a more intelligent diagnosis than I can come up with. . . That generally doesn't happen that way from sitting. Its usually the other way around. the disc sticks to the flywheel & wont relaese. If you have a removeable lower pan under the flywheel You can look up in there & see what is happening. How about a clutch adjustment. There has to be at least a small amount of free play in the pedal. About1/2 to 1in. is normal.

The rear main seal had enough of a leak that oil would run down the transmission input shaft and saturate the clutch just enough. Whenever the car was first driven after sitting, the clutch would slip a lot. After a day or so the clutch would behave normally again until I would let it sit again. had the parking brake been set but a cable didn't move when you released the parking brake?
wheel cylinder stuck leaving a brake dragging?
other than that I would think clutch slippage maybe from leaking rear main seal?
