For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 239 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 239 | Removed my stock '55 1st series gauges. Sent them out for rebuild. I want to drive my truck while waiting to get back the gauges. What is required? I know I need to plug the heat sending fitting hole in the block. Which wires need to be connected? I just want to take it to a swap meet this weekend. thanks | | | | | Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 239 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 239 | Ok, first DISCONNECT THE BATTERY before proceeding. I assume you did not remove the ignition switch. Since you already addressed the temperature sending unit, I won't here.
1) Connect the two wires that were conneced to ammeter. I used a bolt and nut. Wrap the connection real good with electrical tape.
2) You will need to cap the oil pressure tube or you will wind up with a floor full of oil.
3) Reconnect the battery and it should start.

Now I can drive it to the swap meet. It's probably the safest thing to do.
