looking for a fairly cheap truck cover for the 3100 that'll hold up thru a winter
(truck's body work is an ongoing process as my truck is a regular driver).

'search' didn't produce much.

I'm not aware of any specifically built for the AD truck but you should be able to use almost any of the ones built for full-size trucks. A better option might be to use tarps.

I got mine from Brothers Trucks. They are made to fit for the different truck years. I bought the bigger dollar one since mine spends a lot of time outdoors but they for sure had some in the 150.00 range. Can't speak for those but the one I grabbed fit my truck perfectly and has been bomb proof.

Got mine from LMC and it was made to fit my truck year, which it did. Some folks here have purchased "made to fit" from LMC and had different results.

California Car Covers sells a variety of styles/qualities covers for just about any model/year car/truck body. They can custom modify for any types of add-on lights, mirrors, bed-side tire carriers, and antennae. They range (widely) in prices but are they are more expensive than the covers above.

Yes for Calif car covers. I have one for my truck.

anybody ever try a generic cover for say a s-10 ext cab or maybe a ranger extra cab (also cab and a half)

kinda caught me off guard hearing a suggestion for a full sized pickup cover - has anyone tried this -one truck work better than another?

been useing a poly tarp BUT would like something that breathes well under the poly tarp for the long cold winter - (yanking the motor this winter to rebuild).

I bought one from LMC that lasted out in the wind sun and other weather we get here for 3 winters. Once it got its first hole the wind tore it apart in pretty short order.

Another issue to consider is the bed area. If you use a full cover and the truck is not under a hard roof or tarp tent, how do you prevent the truck cover to not sag down into the bed and start collecting rain water?

I made a quick install frame made out of pvc pipe which I first install into the bed, with it running down the middle. Then I install the cover. The frame helps support the cover into a somewhat Teepee shape. So if it rains, the water runs off the sides instead of collecting in the bed.

Now that the truck is stored under a tarp tent, I don't use the cover so much and especially the cover support.

Have a bent wood stepstool and with the rounded top, placed against the tailgate, the tarp streched with bungiecords, holds the snow load just fine.

just would like to get it to breath a little. esp on the hood and roof where the tarp is getting frozen to the truck cause it wont dry out under there.
