Hello,
Does anyone know the specifics for the Clam style doors on 1946 Suburbans? I just bought this vehicle and it has the hatch back style doors in stead of the barn doors. I was just wondering how many of these were made? Any help would be greatly appreciated? As well as any other information about this vehicle.
Thanks, Russ Sweet

RSweet,

You might want to post this in the Burb and Panel section, or maybe the moderator will move your message to that section. I think you will get an answer there....

see here Russ, and look around Brad's site for more info - looks like the clam shell was standard and barn doors optional on the 41-46 burbs, with over twice as many with the clams .... and welcome to the garage!

I have a 46 Burb with clamshell door. If I recall the made about 50 of them compared to about 1900 with barn doors. You have a rare one.

Maybe I am reading incorrectly the the numbers for 1946 suburbans (pre and post strike) at Brads site - the link posted by squeeze?

2545 1946 model 3116 Suburbans with Half Rear Doors and End-Gate ("clamshell" - end-gate rear doors
1644 1946 model 3106 Suburbans with Full Rear Doors doors ("barn doors" - rear doors)

Compared to pickups (and to later Suburbans), the 1946 Suburbans are much rarer.

However, relatively speaking, in 1946, the end-gate Suburban appears to be less rare than the rear door Suburban?

Nice Suburban, Russ.

Thsnks guys! I have been doing a lot of research and I can not even find any pictures on the internet of this style door. It seems as though most were barn doors. This has been great hearing from so many people. I hope to learn more and I will definetly post some pictures when the car gets home. It is being shipped from Minnesota. It is supposed to be here in the next 2 weeks.

Detailed pictures of my clam shell doors on my '46 Carryall

While this is long after the original post, I figure it may still be helpful to some.
