We got the motor and tranny in and bolted up. Just need to figure out the steering box move to get the exhaust manifold thing figured out. Hope it will not be too much trouble. Also thought I would try the orig. rearend and see what happens. Should be able to start it up and maybe move under its own power soon. :} Virg

I'm searching the dark recesses of my empty brain, but isn't there some upside down manifold or a front discharge manifold that precludes absolutely having to move the steering box. It's close, but I thought it could be done. :confused:

There has always been talk of using the manifolds from a 265 and reversing them so that the exhaust does dump from the front. I believe that the 305 may have the same type.
However in spite of all of these possible remedies I have yet to hear of anyone being successful without moving the steering box. I personally would not want to move the box but it does happen. There must be a lot more in the 'search' feature on the site.

I've heard that some 305 manifolds and the old 265 manifolds work, but I've never seen it done.

If someone has pictures of it done without moving the steering box I'd love to see them.

I put a 283 in my 46 and used the 265 manifolds. They worked great. I know the 46 is a little different then the advanced design but I'm thinking it should work without moving the steering box.

We moved the steering box yesterday, about 1 3/4" and used some channel iron between the box and frame, bolted it to the frame. Got the exhaust manifold (Back dump) on, kind of hard to get (#5 I think) sparkplug in but I think it is all going to work. Will try to get a pic. of it on here....Virg

The 265 manifold works....period. You do not switch sides or turn them upside down. The left 265 manifold already dumps at the front. What is not good about them is they are a flat log type manifold with a two bolt flat gasket exhaust flange and are fine for a stock driver, maybe even a stock 350 with a good flowing dual setup, but definitely not the setup for any hypo application.

Now...a question about the rearend...can I use the orig. or what I'm calling it because it had an open driveshaft...or will I have to change rears? I have an S10 out of a 4 wheel drive but it is narrower. Do I just mover the spring pads? Thanks.....Virg
