I finally got a ride in the car today, and I forgot how much fun it was. It was a great feeling.... until the rear main seal started leaking like crazy. Now what are my options? I would hate to have to pull this thing out again, especially after I got it running so well.
What a day.

The original rope type and a new rubber composite type (which is the one I think I would go with). All the directions I found so far states the transmission needs to be separated from the engine and the crank needs to be lowered from the engine. This is something I've actually never done, but neither is swapping a stovebolt so I guess there is a first for everything. Thanks for the tips and advice!

I would say that you should separate the transmission and lower the crank a bit. Having the minimum clearance on the main bearings, all of them, really helps. I used a piece of picture hanging wire to pull in the top half of the seal. The bottom half I rolled in with a socket. My seal doesn't leak at all. | | |
