I'm ready to start work on the interior. I don't know where to start. Any suggestions? My goal is to eventually remove the cab from the frame so that I can blast and paint the frame and start putting it back together. Once the cab is off it will go to someone to repair a bit of rust and do the painting.
Kevin - do you mean you want to do work in the mean time to make it look better (without pulling the cab) or do you mean where do you start to prepare pulling the cab?
It looks like you have some floor pan work to take care of on the passenger side - you could choose to do that while its still on the frame. The cab corners look like the need attention too. Are you planning on doing any welding work?
From the amount of light I see coming through the the stomp started and holes on the passenger side, I'm wondering if you've already taken off the front clip?
I just finished doing what you propose to do Kevin, (frame wise)
I pulled everything out of the cab. Then removed the cab and put it on a trailer. Blasted the frame and the cab (and everything else worth blasting) Then painted the frame (using whatever paint solution you feel is best!) and I epoxy primed everything else. Now I can take my time doing body work and metal repair where needed w/o worrying about more rust.
http://1949chevy.com/index.php/frame/As for the flares, likely aftermarket - especially mounted over the fresh air heater intake cover. I've seen that same setup for flares mounted on the inside of the engine compartment as well.
I looked at the other pics you have - nice looking truck, great shape!
