| | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 167 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 167 | Hi Everyone, I can drive her aorund really slow, I can punch the gas pedle, and she'll take off flying, but if I keep led footing the gas peddle, she goes slow.  The other day I took her on the freeway from Modesto to Stockton, and back. When I got onto the on ramp, she accellorated pretty slow. She's been using a little more fuel than usual lately, I gassed up 2 times in day.  Could the timing be off, carb need adjusting, lifters need adjusting, or tired engine? The egine has almost 200,000 miles. Also is any Stovebolt members gonna be at the Inliners.org Central Ca Chapter meet up in Lodi, Ca on September 7th? If so, could one of you guys check her out for me? I'll be there, but at the ChevyTalk meet. TIA, David

It also sounds like you may have some carb issues too(accelerator pump). With the engine off, can you see fuel squirt inside the carb throat?
Check the points, set them and THEN check/adjust the timing as needed.

Do a tune up.

The points look like new, but the vacumm advance is barely moving (sometimes). I went to the hardware store, and bought a little lighter tensioned spring to replace the non budging spring in the vacumm advance. After installing the new spring, I then backed out her into the street, and took off. All you could hear was EEERRRRRRRRR.  But I didn't mean to do it either. I then took her down a mini hwy a 1/2 mile south from the house, and ran her for about a mile or 2 doing 45mph. She would really move, and was very responsive.  Tomorrow i'm gonna be doing a tune-up.
