I have under the rear of my truck a rearend i have no clue what it is,First it has a third member a housing and a perfectly round 10 bolt rear cover,open it up and you have two main caps that have a bolt in the middle that pushes down on the main bearings,then there is some kind of clutch pack behind the two vertical spider gears,i thought this was a 3/4 ton rearend but it has 6 bolt axels and they have not been redrilled,thanks for having me and any info appreciated. Sounds like an Eaton HO33, which would be the original axle for a '61 1/2 ton. Having clutch packs in it also identifies it as being the rare factory Positraction variant, which was only made for 3 years. Gear ratio is most likely 3.90:1, though a 3.38 and 4.10 were also available.

Would you know where i might find more info on this rearend?

did a lot of research last night on this eaton ho33 and that it is my rearend and found that yukon gear makes gears and axels for it and i can evan get the gears in a highway friendly 3.38 ratio, wooohooo,
now that i know this i won't have to swap to a 700r4 ,wanna say thanks guys, first time out and you hit it out of the park, this forum rocks.
