Obviously the 46 trucks did not have turn signals unless you added them yourself. I've noticed some people install them on the fender extensions which I do not care for. Has anyone used the parking lamps as turn signals on the front? I was thinking about doing that but not sure if it is legal.

I have a 50 and I use mine the only restriction I ran into (every state is probably different) is I had to use amber bulbs or lenses for them to be considered turn signals. The double filament sockets are available from most of the vendors for use in doing this.

Yes, I added a turn signal to my truck and used the parking lamps with an orange double filament bulb. Works for turning and running lights. I bought the bulbs at a FLAPS. I did have to add an extra wire for them but then I had to for the new signals. Oh, I also had to enlarge the hole for the base to fit.

Chevs of the 40s has a kit to swap out the front parking light sockets with double contact socket for dual parking and turn signals. I bought the kit but haven't installed it yet. You do have to run another wire.

I made mine from some double filament sockets laying around but did use amber bulbs. It worked well and looks good.
