Part of this is yet another attempt at squaring up the sheetmetal. I read Mac Kinghorn's article on hood alignment and in it he makes reference to a measurement of 27" on the fender support struts. Does anyone know if this is from the front bolt or the rear. Every A.D. truck will be slightly different for any number of reasons. Install the hood 1st. You get a good hood alignment at the upper cowl and side cowl by adjusting the hood hindges as necessary. Then you align the front fenders etc. to the hood by adjusting those diagonal rods as necessary , use your eye. You can add or subtract shims from under the radiator core support the raise or lower the (nose) fenders to get a good alignment of the hood sides to the fenders and the hood front to the grille. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | Does anyone know if this is from the front bolt or the rear. I followed the tech tip here and it took me reading it about 6 times and then then twice more to really understand what is taking place.
My hood was really bad in the beginning. Here is a couple things from the tech tip that I can attest to and is what finally got my hood fitting real good.
First, do not put the springs on until last. As wbrowne mentioned above use the hinges to get the hood right at the cowl. Then put the springs on like the tip says and let the weight of the hood "set" the springs and then tighten them up while the hood is in the up position. Then raise the back of the fender to fit to the hood and tighten those bolts.
For the firewall rod to the fender rod I got close to the 27" and the 27 1/4" but that was it. I measured from the bolt farthest back into the firewall to the edge of the bracket.
I was about ready to buy new hinges....new springs ect but after a full day of fiddling with it I finally got it. It was a good day so don't you give up. It can be worked out. | | |
