Yesterday I was headed out to help a friend patch a hole in the roof, so the truck was great for hauling my 24' ladder.
On the way there we had to take some back roads because many of the bridges had been flooded out. One of the roads was very bumpy and the 1ton suspension on my truck was bouncing all over since she wasn't loaded down.
Then she gasped and stuttered. Eventually died. Started up and died. Started up and gasped and stuttered and slowly started to run fine again. No problems for the rest of the night.
What happened? My only guesses are...1) The gas got shook up and air got in line...2) The float got shook up and messed up the metering.
Are either of those plausible? Anyone else ever notice this? (292 with 1 barrel/rochester) 1965 Chevy C-30 1-Ton "Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like nobody's watching."

Of your two choices, I vote for the 'floppy float'. If your throttle return spring is weak, you can actually pump the gas pedal with your foot as the truck jumps up and down and not be aware of it. This will of course flood the poor old thing. Watch your mirrors when this happens...black smoke is the clue.

The tank has to be very low to slosh enough to uncover the pick up tube. I've seen small flakes in carb bottoms that could restrict ports if bounced around. If it repeats, be prepared to pull the air filter & watch down the carb throat for a gas spray as you full stroke the acc. linkage. Then you'll at least know whether to investigate the ign. or fuel system.
Hope you guys are OK back there. Doug

Doug Just lots of rain in this area...some flooding, but so far people have been smart and staying out of the way of the water. Clear today, but the ground is still saturated. 1965 Chevy C-30 1-Ton "Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like nobody's watching."
