So I finally got the truck to the frame repair shop to look at the crack in my frame. Got a call that it was worse than he thought but is repairable. The problem is that it will cost about $800. So after spending lots of time getting it running I now have to repair the frame.
The funny thing about this is my wife is telling me to just buy one of the new frames from fatman or progressive.
He did say that the rest of the frame was in good shape.

$800.00 sounds like a lot, What kind of truck and where is the crack ?

Not knowing what type of frame shop you have taken your truck to, you might want to look up a shop that does frame stretching and the like on big trucks as in tractor trailer rigs I have a 3/4 ton frame stretched over two feet for under $200.00. Now i understand this isn't the work you looking to have done but the guys that did mine frame type work was all they did. Just a thought.

The frame shop actually specializes in big trucks. I have dealt with them for years and have always been reasonable. The frame is in front of the the leaf spring but there is a lot of rail that is rotted near the crack. Part of the cost is having to take the bed and running board off. I asked about taking off the bed before I brought it in. Should have done it. I will talk to him again tomorrow.

I think you have a pretty good quote from a place that does that kind of work. I would go for it If I were you.

East Coast prices run that way. I wouldn't sweat it.

Spoke with the shop again today. They got the steel for the frame repair. Except for being surprised by the price, I am looking forward to them fixing the truck. He is also replacing the drag link and aligning everything. He actually was looking over the truck and called me about the engine. He said he knows he can get this running very well.
My wife is super supportive, but I want to drive the truck a little before I decide on hotrodding it or doing more of a restoration. Looking forward to getting it back and playing with it a little.

The steel came in today. So did my wiper motor. They should start on the frame tomorrow. Still waiting for the drag link but that should be here tomorrow. I am hoping to have it back on the road by next week.
