Can get the collar lose but the knob will not come off to allow it to be taken out the hole in the dash. What am I missing? Thanks

This button will be behind the dash and you will just have to feel for it. It will be close to where the shaft from the knob goes into the switch.

Of course you've disconnected the battery first, right?

The shaft is guided by at the front and center so it has to go straight into the insulsted Bakelite sliding block. The only way the shaft is ever gonna come out is if you hold the button in till the end of the shaft clears the detent, which is clearly shown in the pictures.
And yes, of course common sense applies when you get to removing the switch and wires, you surly don't want power to it.

When you get to be as old as I am, the pictures in your head are just to fuzzy to make out the little details when it's time to put it all back togeather.
