Do the two pins that hold the manifold on the ends screw out and replaced with bolts? I and looking at Porter mufflers, has anyone used them and how do they sound on a 235?

There is a manifold alignment pin at both ends of the head.

Forget the "X" pipe, it's not necessary for performance gains with a stock or mild 235 and you'll lose that distinct "Chevy 6 in heat" sound that most of us love.
Porter's and Smitty's have been popular muffler choices to use with Fenton's since back in the 50's. If you are installing an Offy intake are well, you will need to do a little modifying of the clips since the flange thickness is different. SEE HERE I have some pics somewhere of what I did to make it work. Will have to look around to see where they are......

Agree not necessary for performance gains but if you plan to drive your vehicle any distance, lots of 1k and 2k trips like I do that noise gets old remarkably fast. The X-pipe I have has really quieted down my '56 yet it still sounds good.

I have old and sturdy 30" glasspacks located after my 'X' and will replace them with Porters one day. The Porters are sturdily built by a small company and their youtube testimonies sure sound good to me. There is a 2-in 2-out muffler that I have seen on the Jegs site that has an X inside it. PS, I think the paint scheme on your cab is first rate. Cosmo
