I have a 1948 thriftmaster 3/4 ton which was leaking oil out of the rear of the propeller shaft.

I am trying to locate a place to buy the replaceable sealing surface on the rear of the shaft.

It is where the rear seal rides behind the bearing. It looks as if it was pressed on but it is worn to the point where the new seal will not ride tightly on the surface.

Any help you could provide would be great.

Thanks in advance,

Kellen

Here is a discussion of the seal Seal and Photos . I don't have this type of setup but with some shafts you can buy a Speedi Sleeve. They are a thin sleeve that fits over the shaft to give a new surface.

There are three sources for a leak as you described.
1) The seal.
2) The flange gasket.
3) Around the six or so bolts that hold the flange ot the differential housing.

I don't think he is talking about the differential housing. I think his leak is at the center hanger on a 3/4 Ton.

Thank you for the replys, the leak I was describing was at the center hanger like truckernix suggested. I have the shaft all apart and ready to install the new seals and I am going to try a speedi sleeve.

Thanks again,
Kellen

As I recall, at this point, there is the seal that you described. and also the bearing is a sealed type. My original shaft was so bad, I had to find another.
