I was talking with a friend about the issues I had with my truck and he asked if I wanted to buy a 250 inline 6 from his 1966 pickup. He has headers on it and told me it runs well but he just put a 350 in his truck. I could probably get it cheap. Is this something worth doing? What are the advantages over the 235? I know the mounts are different but Langdon has a kit for that. I also know the bellhousing is different but that would allow a more modern tranny.
Is this a difficult swap?
Thanks

Hi Kary,I did the swap in my 49 Chevy 1/2 ton.Whent from a 235(it was toast so i got one for FREE) to a 250. I bought the kit from Langdon and it was straight forward. I also whent with a TH350, no adapters needed because the 250 has the same bellhousing pattern of a small block v8.Yes it allows for a modern tranny (standard or auto) but what are your plans?...I'm going with an open driveline set up, what are your intensions? Let us know and we will help you out.

The 235 has a knock that might be a bearing. I wanted to change the tranny so I can have a little higher top end. I will probably rebuild the 235 but the swap may be more cost effective right now. I also have the transmission from my camaro sitting in my basemant if I want to use it.

This should be a fairly easy swap in a 55-1. It has an open drive shaft. Use a bell houseing from a 55 up V-8. If the Camero trans is an o-drive It will gear it up real good. If not I would get a T-5. I dont know what that kit has in it but you will need motor mounts for the front & if you use an alum. trans. you will want a crossmember under the rear of it. The rest is coolant & electrical & exhaust. I think it will be a fantastic. swap. You will never want the 235 back in it.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

250 is good.

If you can't fix it with a hammer and screwdriver, you need a bigger hammer.
