Just got back from the Streetrod National at Louisville. Just got to do something about the heat from the engine and other places. Have looked at "Lizardskin", "Dynamat" and others. Wow, they cost a ton of bucks. Does anyone have a more inexpensive way to go? Thanks

Bill, I am hoping to find something more in line with a thick (10mils) aluminum backing, both sides, with a rubber like inner section. On top of this I would like to place a layer of high density close cell foam that has a thin layer of solf lead or aluminum to mold itself to all the tight corner and such. I found a website called "secondskinaudio.com" that pretty much fits the bill. Just trying to find a better price as these kinds of stuff got to be used in other applications where the puchase price might be lower. Thanks

multi layer material like that will not be cheap for any application - lead/foam or lead/felt similar to 2nd skin is commonly used for high end yacht flooring underlay, might try to find some used

A friend of mine goes to wrecking yards and gets the insulation under the carpet of vans and mini vans, then cuts it to fit his needs.

I've purchased the heavy foil backed insulation from an auto upholstery supplier for little money. About 3' x 12' roll as I recall. Good stuff, no name but not expensive.

I used 1 layer of foil backed butyl rubber with peel and stick for sound deadening (it is in the roof section at Home Depot) costs about $1.25 per square ft. This holds the noise down.

Then I went back to Home Depot and bought a simalarly built foam insulation (used for A/C Ducts--has alum one side, foam on the other, sticky on the foam side....$1.25 per sq ft...

So for $2.50 per sq ft I sound deadened the front firewall floor and rear of the cab on my 66, and insulated it also. at 80 with the windows down you can carry on a conversation and you get no heat from the engine.....today I am driving it with no A/c the only heat is from the sun.......Kieth

We used silver tape to close the seams:

since we could not leave the floor stock we ordered a full cab floor mat from Raybuck.com then put the stock floor mat over that so it looks quasi stock, is quiet, does not transmit heat, and is easy to keep clean.

I think the full rubber mat cost $135.00 plus shipping Kieth
