Im told that the 292 manifold has a larger exhaust pipe than the 230. Is there any benefit to running a 292 exhaust manifold on my 230? One of the flanges is broken off so I need to replace the manifold anyways.

The light duty trucks (1/2 to 1 ton) with 292 used practically the same manifold as the smaller 6 cyl. engines. There would be no advantage going to one of those. The larger trucks had an ex. manifold with a larger outlet. 2 1/2 in. It is pointed straight down & the smaller ones outlet slants to the rear. They are pretty rare. Be careful useing used 292 manifolds as they are generally warped or cracked. The ex. on them run really hot. The big manifold has no heat riser valve.

hmmm....then my options are to find a salvageable 230 manifold or go to headers.

Any 230-250 ex. manifold will fit. The later ones had 3 bolts on the flange while the early ones had 2. You can use either one if you use the corresponding flange on the pipe. If you leave the intake on there are some differences in the throttle links.

Ok, thanks for the help. My manifold has a 2 bolt flange. I think the easiest option is to find a 2 bolt flange to replace it with. Ive considered the fenton style headers from Langdons, but then I have to route water lines to heat the intake, I ve never done that style of conversion before. The problem with most of the manifolds Ive seen are that people want like $200 or they are warped. $200 for a stock manifold is too much, Ive seen them at the swaps for like $30-$50. Southeastern Nationals will be in Charlotte NC in Oct. Maybe I'll just wait a couple of weeks unless I find one before that.

There is a Chevy parts guy who advertises on Craig's list. He is in Florence, I think. His advertised prices were good. I'd look him up. That shouldn't much of a run from Fayetteville. I'd also check the local salvage yards.
