I can see what you are saying, but they are made from solid steel bars. The ones for the Advance Design trucks look like someone bolted a headboard to their truck. look at my '48 in the gallery

not my cup of tee, but if you live in the right part of the country it may be a good investment inorder to save a good grill. a fiend had a deer jump in frot of his KW , cost a fortune to fix.
The authenticity of 54TOW's original '48 with the Smash Hit grille is vintage cool, even if it does look like a headboard.
I moved from Ohio to Colorado about 6 years ago. Some of the big rigs and pickups out here that travel the backroads have grille / bumper guards that are truly built to handle front end collisions.
If you have ever seen one of these it is a jaw dropping experience.
The Smash Hit grille guards look like they wouldn't truly do much of anything, except bend back into the front of the truck and cause damage of their own.
They come from the Perry Company, a farm equipment manufacturer/distributor in Waco Texas. They're called cattle guards and 'cow pushers' as well. Being made from bar stock instead of pipe, I believe they are as strong/stronger than the bumper itself.
I just visited a junkyard in Colorado and saw this Smash Hit Grille Guard. Thanks to Google I found your Forum... It's a Corvair Loadside Pick Up (cheaper cousin to a Rampside). I have my name on it, and hope to go back soon to get it for my Rampside! How do I attach the pix??

I have a Corvair Rampside pickup in Ash Fork Arizona, and was going to drive my 93 Silverado 4x4 diesel pickup there to pick it up, show it off at the Corvair convention/show in DenVair Colorado, and tow it to a friends in Indiana for a powertrain rebuild. But the Silverado died 50 miles from home, (junk tranny rebuild a few miles earlier), so I flew to DenVair, and a freind took me to this junkyard 100 miles away near Colorado Springs. That's where I saw the Smash Hit, and I will go back to get it this fall, hopefully driving!
