It looks like I will be building a new, larger roofed patio this fall or next spring. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what nailer/stapler brand to buy. Outside of this project I probably won't use it a lot, so I can't justify a $800 nailer. I want to spend less than $200. The 25 to 50 dollar guns make me nervious, so any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

Ebay a used Paslode, Bostitch, or Senco gun. Just examples:

You can usually buy left over framing nails on ebay too for a fraction of new. Just make sure they work on the model of gun you buy.

Hi Tiny, thanks for your comments. I know most of the consumer names. I was thinking maybe someone had a brand that was realy good. For example I had not heard of Senco, orPaslode. I will look into those brands. Thanks again, Jimmie.

I own a Bostitch N80 that shoots clipped head nails. It's a good gun but old technology in that it needs periodic oiling. Newer technology guns are oilless (many are imported too). Most Senco guns are imports now. I don't know about Paslode (imported or not). Paslode has pretty much been the gold standard for nail guns but I haven't purchased any in a number of years so I don't know if that consensus still holds. Any of the three will give you a good gun.

I bought the Harbor Freight air nail guns to build my deck. The deck is built and the guns are still like new. I wouldn't ignore that possibility if you have an air compressor.
