Has anyone done a front end disc brake conversion on a 63-66 chevy truck? Im trying to see if the stock drum wheels will fit over the disc brake calipers. I have the stock rims which are 15x8 I believe, 15x7 at the smallest. I know that the kit pushes the front wheels out 1/2", which is not a problem, but I don't want to do the conversion to find out I have to find later model 15" rims that are 6lug and will except my stock 63 hubcaps.

If you indeed do have 15x7 or 15x8 6lug rims with the nubs for your 63 caps to fit on then the rims should fit as those rims were produced after 1973 when discs were available on trucks.
You got a pic of them!

I agree, if you have 15x7 or 15x8 they are later model wheels. The originals would probably have been 15x5, or 15x6. The early pre-disc brake wheels may or may not fit over the calipers depending on the offset.

Im running a 235/75R15 on them now, don't know if that helps any, but short of removing the tire from the rim I dont have a way of measuring the total width of the rim I currently have.

I did a conversion on my '66. I posted a write-up on it in the tech tip section.

yeah, i already downloaded that. Lots of good info. I have about every piece of literature that can be found for the 63 models, but some things like the disc brake conversions very by manufacture. The swap seems pretty straight forward, and im sure the old beast will stop better. Im going to switch to a hydraulic clutch also...ill take pics and do instructions on it for anyone else that might be interested. Im doing it to make room for long tube headers and a frame mounted clutch sits right in my way.

Why go with hydraulic set up when Langdon's cast iron headers clear the stock linkage so well and outlast the steel tube headers. About the same price too.

Haven't looked at the cast iron headers. Ive owned several big blocks, and the long tube headers really bring them to life. Ill do some research on the ones from langdons.

I know every article I read about 15" rims on disc conversions talks about grinding off some of the caliper to allow the rim to fit even with 11" discs.

These people have an offset disc and other stuff for the conversion.
There is a lot of good reading in the tech section of their website.

let us know how it turns out.

Unless you have the later rims from a 1971+ that came with disc brakes. I guess the only real answer to my question is to mock up the spindles and put my rims on them to see if they'll fit. CPP is the company whose kit I ordered, and the rotors are 12"
