They are very rare. I have seen them go for $300 to $500 dollars. I don't know that they are worth that, but some people pay those kind of prices for bragging rights.

So, if I have one and am thinking of selling, how would you suggest I "prove it's not junk"? If the payout is worth it I would be willing to put a little time/money into it.

A reputable machine shop can clean it and mag test it for cracks. These heads were very prone to cracking. As Ashton mentioned, it would probably fetch $100 as a "cat in a bag". If it is not cracked, prices I mentioned would be in order from someone who wanted one. If it is cracked, it is worth scrap iron price. The price a machine shop would charge to test it depends on the shop's reputation and prices in your area.

Be sure to ask the shop to clearly and legibly identify the head itself, and the work done, not just say "clean & check head".
Obviously all guides and seats are presumed to need work.

I've taken the head to a machine shop I like to be checked. Thanks again for the advice.

If you want the best money for it, advertise it at the inliners site. Lots of racing guys would give their left one for an H head.

Thanks for the ideas on where to post. I'll be more excited when and if the head is good.

How do you tell the difference between a large port and small port 270 head?

There is an article on GMC heads in Patrick's catalog.

Mostly tell the difference by casting #. And Cletis is right the best place is Patrick's to learn about the different types.
