Members, Just finished a shakedown run. After about 17 miles I kept hearing some kind of noise...it would start and then go away. It seems to be coming from the right side of the motor. What could this be ? I don't know the difference between, lifter,valve,tappett,etc. noises. How can I pin point noise and remedy it? I just spent all winter working on her and spending lots of coin...which my lovely wife has had to endure...even though we have other projects...So Please pray to the truck gods it something simple. I'm running out the door,so this is all I can say at the moment...please advise and give some direction and then I can get more details etc. Thanks Guys

Sorry, Thats the only truck I have...Thats why I put the info below my signature....But you guys don't know that....I will do so in the future.
And yes,it's for the 54 1/2 ton....Just got home and doubled check oil level...down a quart, don't know if that would make a difference. I used shell rottela 40 wt.

I'd take a look for a bent pushrod. It can make a noise come and go. Take the valve cover off and adjust the valves and as your doing this watch the pushrods. If you have a bent one you should be able to see it while the engine is running. Look where the pushrod goes through the hole in the cylinder head, you will see it easier then. In my opinion if the spring was broken in the fuel pump the noise wouldn't go away. Might want to check and make sure the distributor is tight and not jumping up and down, but that would lead to running poor probably.
