Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 368 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 368 | Members, Just finished a shakedown run. After about 17 miles I kept hearing some kind of noise...it would start and then go away. It seems to be coming from the right side of the motor. What could this be ? I don't know the difference between, lifter, valve, tappett, etc. noises. How can I pin point noise and remedy it? I just spent all winter working on her and spending lots of coin...which my lovely wife has had to endure...even though we have other projects...So Please pray to the truck gods it something simple. I'm running out the door,so this is all I can say at the moment...please advise and give some direction and then I can get more details etc. Thanks Guys | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy Jimmi_V, please remember to tell us what you're asking questions about, is it your 54 with a 235 and four speed??? | | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 368 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 368 | Sorry, Thats the only truck I have...Thats why I put the info below my signature....But you guys don't know that....I will do so in the future. Take the valve cover off and adjust the valves and as your doing this watch the pushrods. If you have a bent one you should be able to see it while the engine is running. Look where the pushrod goes through the hole in the cylinder head, you will see it easier then. In my opinion if the spring was broken in the fuel pump the noise wouldn't go away. Might want to check and make sure the distributor is tight and not jumping up and down, but that would lead to running poor probably.
