just asking, has anyone ever put a ford small block in their bolt? did not find on when i did a search.
just curious

Putting a Chevy SB in a stock AD frame causes some problems with steering box clearance. However the Ford SB will fit in perfectly without touching the box. I've seen one and its a nice installation.
Of course now we will both be 'burned at the stake' for talking Fords on a Chevy Forum!

I know its been done. I've seen two AD trucks at car shows in the area that had Ford motors under the hood.

In both cases I talked with the owners and got a real lifted finger feel from the owners. Neither said it, but my sense were these are Ford guys wanting to fight back.

But then I frequently tell a Mercedes owner I know about how I'm putting a Chevy motor in a Mercedes. I don't own a Mercedes but it does make a good story and he sure doesn't like it.

Burning at the stake? Drawn and quatered? Gee, it's become the battle of the duelling Zippo's, has it? And I thought simple shunning was the proper F*&d retaliation. That and stopping to give them a ride to town in your Chevy when the F^#d broke down.

Bur Cruzer if you want to put that thing in your Chevy go right ahead. I'll donate the tow rope.

It should have a sign on the back pitifully powered by Ford what was I thinking.

This reminds me of the new Southern Motor car. They have a beautiful AD body with, as of now, a F**d motor.

Well, my F350 is about to have an identity crisis, with an Onan/Cummins turbo diesel engine, a New Process 235 transmission out of a GMC, an early Chevy hydraulic clutch bellhousing, and a GM Corporate 14-bolt rear axle. It's already worn out two 351C engines and a C-6 transmission, plus the original Ford rear axle. Most of the powertrain is out of a UPS box truck, which was set up to run the Cummins, A Chevy 292, or a Ford 300 interchangeably. The Cummins is a 120 HP turbo diesel, with a top governed speed of 3,600 RPM. It should handle a 1-ton with a 12-foot flatbed without much trouble, although I'd prefer to have an overdrive 5-speed instead of the 4-speed direct drive NP 235.

I like old rides--period. That said, we put chevy engines in where a rear sump fits best, ford where front sump is best (like mercedes), and chrysler if a center sump works. Wouldn't hesitate for a second to put a 302 ford in a cracker box chevy II since they came with a front sump engine and wouldn't spend a minute cobbling up a ford with a supposedly rear sump pan (that still has the oil pump hanging down) to keep it "all ford". Since the 283-350 has the cheapest aftermarket parts it is the one most often used and the 318-340 chrysler is the least used because of availability and parts prices. Whether anyone likes it or not, the pushrod 302 ford is one of the best engines ever because it's ITT ( impervious to teenagers). Just watch how they drive their mustangs and it'll make one cringe. Before anyone asks my personal ride which just went to a new home (due to $3 gas) was a 76 LUV with a chevy smallblock 400.

I just want ya'll to know my posts where in pure jest. I am driving a 76' Ford F150 Ranger XLT that belong to my grand-father. I have lots of fond memories of riding with him in that truck to go wood cutting or what not. Some people have offered to buy and and my brother and I say, "You can't put a price on memories." I am a Chevy man first though, but glad to see people sticking with American made.

Interesting note about engine swaps. My neighbor has one of those newer Dodge pickups, I think its a Dakota, and has just finished installing a complete SBC Chevy driveline in it. He liked the look of the truck but didn't like the engine. No kits for that conversion, all fabrication.

Best conversion I've seen of late was recently completed by a neighbor/friend of mine.

He just built a 48 Ford 1/2-ton pickup on a late model Dodge Dakota frame.

All-wheel drive, and yep... It's gotta HEMI!

Very nicely done, and probably the best running Ford in the area.

He's already been contact by one of the Classic Truck mags. for a full spread and cover.

'64-'67 Nova V8s had fron sump smallblocks.
Here's a suggestion. I take this from the guys that are using the "Olds Rocket" el-fako smallblock rocker covers to pass them off as Olds engines. Make up a set of Chevy racing covers for your ford, then tell folks it's one of them ne R 07 Nascar blocks! You can tell 'em you got it from Hendrick racing!
