Been giving TOTO the Extra attention that she deserves since arriving at the lot and couldn't resist the urge to pull the cover off the winch last night and check it all out. Figured I'd shoot some "Shaky" video and share it with you guys.
Have any of you guys seen a truck with a winch setup that works like this before? I think that sticker says CASWELL manufacturing I found a number for them and haven't had any luck getting through yet. I'm sure Spanky has. Steve MONGO
It may be a odd way to wench , but it will out winch a drum style anyday ! I know from having used it for years . Thanks for the video Steve . Now you need to post a video of the bed and tailgate operations ! Be Careful now , LOL !
Some of the early dump beds had a vertical hydraulic ram with cables over it that would lift the front of the bed up. Somewhat like a forklift is set up.
The only other time I have seen hydraulic rams pulling cables in on an old 4-post vehicle lift. It had rams under the deck that pulled cables to raise/lower the rails.
Seems like it would be a fine system, but limited in use in that you only have about 24' of pull at a time, fine for pulling something onto the bed if it is backed right up to it. It would be a pain having to hook and re-hook multiple times to get something from a distance.
It definitely is a simple system, so it has that going for it as well. No need to worry about the cable unspooling on a winch, or spooling on evenly, but then i guess you do have 3 rams to worry about.

Cylinder winches are very, very common in fact. They have been around forever and continue to this day. Check out many makes of roll offs or industrial tilt frames used to collect cans of trash or junk. A more common place to find them is where you can't see them...on every TommyGate as well as other brands of verticle travel liftgates.
I have saw a winch setup on a bed very much like this one. It was on a '62 Chevy LCF a junk man in my area owned some years ago. Unfortunately I haven't seen him, or the truck for several years now.

My truck has a vertical ram that was used for the dump body that was once on it. I dont know if it works, it was all disconnected when I got it. I recently removed it so I could restore the truck. Boy is that thing heavy!
