Hi Everyone

I managed to fit the parking brake yesterday but I think I have a spring or curved steel part missing ? .... I can pull the knob with B on and hold the brake on, but if I let go it goes slack, can I get the part I have shown.

When you pull the knob with the B on it it should release the park brake.
Maybe I dont understand your description

I started thinking to myself today, I have to get a test / m.o.t. (UK) on my truck and make it legal, I've had it since late April and still to drive it due to guy in States selling me a dud and dangerous truck. I've been working on it all the time, I now have brakes, I now have lights and after today and thanks to Tom Myers of Oklahoma I now have a Parking brake. Thanks to Dads50 on here I now solved why my parking brake was loose and would not hold on. I did partially work with my eyes shut !!!, I must have because on the end of the curved shaft on my parking brake shaft on my 3600 3/4 ton was the spring I was missing ( I now know it was the spring but whoever, they fitted it in the wrong place and I wasn't to know, I got the Parts manual now so I know for sure ). So before I realised, I came up with my own plan, I got a Valve spring from a Jaguar V12 engine and cut it in half with an angle grinder. Once in place above the cab floor with the curved shaft threaded through and under the flat shaft and bracket, I tried it ..... WOW !!! it works, the Jaguar spring fires it off like a Magnum 44 ( hope everything holds against the Jag spring or it will take my ear clean off ). Will it now pass a UK road test, NO, the truck has the original vacuum wipers ( but whole truck is 12v ) but the nice bloke who sold didn't tell me they were broken ). I seem to have everything apart from the wire from knob on dash which is snapped short of the vacuum unit. Also Tom Myers has sent me a Vacuum rubber pipe, where does this go ... I presume to the manifold somewhere. I don't care about fancy electric wipers, I just want them to work because I don't drive any of my old vans / trucks in the rain.

So here goes with another question, now I realised the spring should not be below the floor inside the fender wheel arch on the shaft ( where mine was ), this link / diagram below shows a square GUIDE 3687254 with a hole in it and a BUMPER 3687258, what do these do and will it be bad if I don't make these and fit them.

These are the parts you are needing. It's a seal and cushions the the curved brake rod against the underside of the floor board.

Concerning the seller of your truck. While you're not likely to purchase another truck anytime soon, many, many members of Stovebolt volunteer to personally check out a vehicle for any/all members if it's in their area and give a fair description beyond the sellers. It's too late now for you, but others may want to know this.

Thanks for the info and whilst I was buying it I didn't know they were known as Stovebolts, I tried to find a decent forum on the net under chevy trucks but this excellent site never popped up. I thought I was buying a 3100 which I wanted, but mines a 3600 with 3100 badges.

Might I ask were you got your rear breaks shoes for your 3600 (3/4 Ton) I assume its also an 8 bolt? I'm having a hard time findint them
