The one on the left has the #s in the picture on the flywheel the one on the right has smaller #s that i can not make out yet. so can any one tell from the pics what is the 261 or the 235 FLYWHEEL PICTURES | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,636 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,636 | I may be wrong, but the 261 probably has a bigger clutch. Simply measure across where the disc has run and measure it. The 261 should have a wider area. I have a 261 in my 1/2 ton and used the 261 flywheel with the bigger clutch. There may be a difference in the timing ball placement between the two flywheels, but that depends on what year they are.

(except P.G.) flyywheel. So it is likely for a 235 although it could be for a 216 not 261.

You want to match the flywheel with the starter you plan to use.

The 6 volt ring gear has 139 teeth and the 12 volt ring gear has 168 teeth. The flywheel has to match the starter you are going to use, 6 volt - 139 teeth, 12 volt - 168 teeth. After that is decided, then you can move on to the other issues.
The flywheel Drew P mentions will be 6 volt only. You will need a later model flywheel from either the 235 or the 261 - 55 to 62 for a 12 volt application.

The truck is a 49 3100 still 6V, that had the 235 in it but PO pulled it and was going to put in the 261. so i am thinking that the 55 261 was also 6v if it has the same flywheel. and i can use the plate from the 235 that was in the truck. | | |
