For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 173 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 173 | My COE was originally a road tractor with a large saddle tank. Well, the fifth wheel and saddle tank are gone and a twelve foot flat bed has been installed. In an effort to get the truck on the road I installed a gas tank behind the seat, like a 1/2 ton. I quickly see why there was such a large saddle tank on the truck, she kinda likes gas. Now that I'm working the truck some, I can't put in a full days work on the behind the seat tank w/o a trip to the station. My question is, was there an option for an auxiliary tank in '52? I don't see it covered in my repair manual. I would like to install a switch that switches the fuel supply and gauge at the same time. I have a junk '76 C70 that could supply the flipper switch and a '72 F700 Ferd to supply a rectangular 35gal tank for under the bed. None of this is original, but what would be original? I am focusing on using this truck, but want to keep an original feel to it. thanks all. Scott

They were usually mounted to the right frame rail, as the pre '49 AD trucks were. They were probably left over tanks from the earlier '48, & back trucks. Find a '48, or earlier GM 1 1/2 ton, or larger truck, & there you go. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 | Many of the fuel tanks you see on older trucks and especially tractors were aftermarket items. I don't think any of the sadletanks were an OE option but were locally purchased and dealer installed or sent to an outside upfit supplier. | | |
