I just took the hood release cable out of a 79 Buick and tied it into the original latch mechanism with a drilled hole. I also drilled a second hole for a return spring but it probably wasn't needed. My plan is to cut the portion of the old latch off below the holes but just haven't got around to it yet. I can shoot some pics this evening if needed.

"Something simple"....with should include convenient, reliable, and 100% functional. I traveled down this same road and discovered that the original latch assembly did not lend itself well to adapting an inside release. Secondly, with a solid chin pan you may find yourself weilding a sawzall when your cable rig malfunctions!!!!

Thankfully, my concerns for a remote release were for security reasons and someone on the bolt had already added a couple simple pieces to the stock latch assembly so that a padlock could be added. I trust s search for "hood lock" should turn up the pictures. If your concerns are for security you might consider this as a "simple" alternative.

Under the hood.

cable routing

in the cab.

You could obviously do a better job with the proper "Z" connection on the cable instead of just tie a knot like I did. I'll get around to fixing that some day. I made the bracket from 3/4" x 3/4" angle iron.

Good Job Vern! thanks for the pics. Thanks Dave, too, I will also search for the lock idea. I remember I saw that awhile ago, but then forgot...:)

I used the cable and latch assembly from an old Taurus with good results.
