For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2011 Posts: 99 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2011 Posts: 99 | I think I messed something up.
I have been slowly trying to fix things on my 1955 1st series to try to register it.
I started it up the other day and gave it too much choke. It backfired and blew the vacuum line off of the wiper motor. Now the wipers do not move.
Did I kill the motor? Can it be fixed or will I have to replace it? Do you guys think I should just switch to an electric wiper motor?
Help!

I would have liked to keep mine, but I just got tired of srewing with them. So I went electric. But you can try taking them out and messing with it out of the dash to trouble shoot it. I have never had one appart but I would think you could take it apart and clean it and lube it. Good luck. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 117 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 117 | Those vacuum motors are relatively tough, I bet it is just stuck. I took mine apart quite a while ago and I seem to remember it was pretty simple. The hardest part was getting it in and out. After a good cleaning and lube it worked better than when I first got the truck. Do a search here, you should be able to find something on how to rebuild it. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 117 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 117 | | | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 38 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 38 | I took mine apart cleand it and a good lube job had it working OK. You will have to hand cut a gasket for it. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,895 Socket Breaker | | Socket Breaker Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,895 | If you don't want to bother with it... http://www.wiperman.com/-W | | |
