I think I messed something up.

I have been slowly trying to fix things on my 1955 1st series to try to register it.

I started it up the other day and gave it too much choke. It backfired and blew the vacuum line off of the wiper motor. Now the wipers do not move.

Did I kill the motor? Can it be fixed or will I have to replace it? Do you guys think I should just switch to an electric wiper motor?

Help!

Well vacuum wipers can be ok if you have to time to get them to work right. I would have liked to keep mine, but I just got tired of srewing with them. So I went electric. But you can try taking them out and messing with it out of the dash to trouble shoot it. I have never had one appart but I would think you could take it apart and clean it and lube it. Good luck.

Those vacuum motors are relatively tough, I bet it is just stuck. I took mine apart quite a while ago and I seem to remember it was pretty simple. The hardest part was getting it in and out. After a good cleaning and lube it worked better than when I first got the truck. Do a search here, you should be able to find something on how to rebuild it.

I took mine apart cleand it and a good lube job had it working OK. You will have to hand cut a gasket for it.
