hey guys, brought home an s10 t5 today for my 292 but the bell housing is different,did i need the bell housing from the old sm465 to do this swap?

No. The SM465 has a larger opening around the front brg. retainrer. I dont know what year you have but 67 on back had the smaller hole. With the proper mods. to the trans & clutch as desctribed in Tech tips & past posts it should fit.

okay, i have been told that the bellhousing from the 292/sbc will work on the t5

The bell houseing from the S-10 will not work unless it happens to be a 4.3 engine. Any chev. bell housing will fit the engine except the old Stovebolt 6 engines 62 on back.

hmmm, i got the t5 from an 86 s10 because it has the gear ratios i wanted and the mechanical speedo, but of course the bell is wrong. if i were to get a 4.3 bell will that solve my issues?what about the hyd. slave cyl?

You can take the bellhousing off the transmission you have. Then just find a later GM bellhousing. Unless you want a hydraulic clutch setup don't worry about finding one of those.

You don't have to run a hydraulic throw-out bearing or hydraulic activated clutch. If you're going to use an old stock manual bell housing, why not use the stock fork, diaphram pressure plate with your stock flywheel, a long throwout bearing and a clutch disc from an 83-84 2.8L Firebird. It takes a little fabricating on the bell-crank assembly but with a mechanical setup you save having to bolt the master/slave cylinders or buying a pricey hydraulic bearing. I've got 14K on my mechanical setup with no issues.....clutch action is as smooth as butter. Check out pics in my webshots Chevy albums.

i am currently working on the my 4th ad truck with a late model 6 (250 or 292) and a t5 trans you need the following parts for a clean installation 54-55.1 bellhousing crossmember, 55 chevy truck v8 bellhousing, 54 and up bellhousing mounts, boxing frame plates, side motor mounts (i make them to use the biscit style rubber mounts), and a side plate to mount on the block to mount your original gas peddle linkage, modify your trans, and get a clutch disc, look on chevybombs.com my user name is THE CUT MASTER my work is document there.

thanks guys, i'm just sick that i got rid of the old tranny and clutch stuff,live and learn!i'll check out your stuff john,looks like good info.i am putting this stuff in a 50'1/2 ton so i'd rather not mess with the hyd.clutch stuff.there is a 66'big bolt at picknpull with a 292/4spd that i'm hoping they will put in the yard(thank god for picknpull!)maybe i can get what i need there.
