As a new owner of a 1952 3100 pickup, I would like to do as many of you and keep a few spares on the shelf just in case. Although the Carter YF carb on the 1961 235 engine in the truck is working great, it would be nice to have a backup unit.

I crawled all over the engine compartment yesterday with the flashlight looking for the id number. Finally found a "92" stamped (not cast) on the edge of the mounting flange but I can't find this number reference. Since my engine is a hybrid of parts, I doubt if the carb is also a 1961 part and may not even be a GM unit. I would appreciate any help in figuring out where the carb came from so I can search for another one..

I noticed that there are several cast numbers on the carb in addition to the stamped number. Will these help me id the carb????

I did find a stamped number on the edge of the mounting flange that appears to be "92" but can't find that number listed when I Google search id numbers. Would like to know what make and model vehicle the carb came from so I can look for a spare.

The Carter YF's were identified by two different methods:

(1) The vast majority were identified by a stamped 3 or 4 digit number, followed by the letter "S" as is (S)am. This stamped number will always be found on the CENTER casting.

(2) A very few YF's were identified by the number being stamped on a triangular brass tag under one of the screws holding the top casting to the center section.

No other numbers have meaning.

The smallest possible 3 digit number is 735s.

I guess the brass tag was lost some time in the past.

Since I only found two numbers stamped on the center casting flange, I will scrub the flange with a wire brush to see if the rest of the numbers are there altough the carb is pretty clean.

While you're looking for the stamped number,
can you list the "several cast numbers.

Who knows.....you could get lucky.

Crawled on the engine again and finally found the number behind the throttle linkage.

2100S

the "92" stamped along the edge of the flange is still puzzling.
