For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 | I have converted to discs wuth a double diaphram and dual master. While the truck brakes ok under normal use, I am unable to lock them up. I seem to be bottoming out solid the pedal after 3 inch depression. Is the connecting rod between the pedal and master too short or am I missing somthing else?

Also bear in mind the front pads will have to work harden, new pads can sometimes feel a bit spongy but the pedal still shouldn't bottom out.. I would try adjusting the pushrod as you've suggested. Just make sure to pay attention to the free-play and you do not retain pressure after the pedal's released. 1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in ScotlandIn the Stovebolt GalleryMore pix on Flickr. Make sure your rear drums are adjusted up properly. Does your new M/C have a built-in proportioning valve ? If not you may need to add one. If your M/C is mounted below floorboards you should have a residual pressure valve on system. ( Check out Wilwood website for info. ) As Jock says, there is some adjustment on the piston rod between the booster and M/C - make sure you still have clearance on this or your brakes will seize up as pressure is not fully released each time you release the pedal. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 82 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2005 Posts: 82 | If you converted from stock drums to power discs did you weld an extension onto the arm that conects to the push rod ? I had to add 3/4" between the original push rod hole & the new one. Now I have about 3" of pedal travel & the truck stops great

Let us know how you get on. 1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in ScotlandIn the Stovebolt GalleryMore pix on Flickr. I had to extend the arm on mine to correct the problem. You may just be able to drill a hole lower on your arm. Just make sure the push rod doesn't bind going thru the firewall.
