The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area The Electrical Bay '57 Ignition Swithch

Getting ready to clean up and upgrade some the wiring [such as a larger positive cable per prior post] and I was wondering what to do with the ignition switch if anything. My truck has a 350 SBC that the previous owner appears to have installed a push switch on the dash to engage the starter. Didn't the trucks originally have a floor start switch? [at least that is what the assembly manual seems to indicate]

What should I be looking at with this push switch to assure I am not loosing any power and that it does not create any other electrical concerns?

Six cylinder trucks had the button on the floor, V8s had a key switch.

Your solenoid doesn't care if your switch is a push button or integral to the ignition switch. All a switch does is make a connection. No reason to replace the button unless you just want to.

Thanks for that, yeah the truck was previously a six cylinder and the ignition key and pass door are the same so it is obviously original. Not looking to change anything I dont need to, plus it is a stainless steel button and looks pretty good on the dash as it is!
