I'm getting it ready to put a floor in my '56. There is a big spool of wire in the machine which is is rusty on the out side--seems to me I should unspool the rusty wire down to clean wire and not run rusty wire through the machine. Thoughts? Also is there anything else I should check given its former dampness before I fire it up? It has been in a dry room for a year now.

| | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 | Another thing to do to keep your wheel/tips from clogging is clip a little piece of felt on the wire prior to where it enters the machine (using one of those lever type paper clips). I have also used ear plugs and cigarette filters it wipes all the stuff you can't see off the wire prior to it going through the roller, guides and tips. No contamination is the goal as far as welding goes.

It works, but the feed works better faster- at speeds 1,2 3 it slows or stops. Any thoughts? The bearing might have a little rust and that may be catching at slow speeds....will clean it.

Just a thought, but is the roller tension set correctly. It may be too loose.
