All the internal parts are not very old. So they are in good condition. Point is I want to use as many of the 250 cid parts as I can. Now from what I can see the 230 cid engine block & Head seem to be the same as my 250 cid engine. If there is Any differances please explain? Since Im about to take the 230 block,250 crankshaft, and 230 head or the 250 head to the machine shop. I would like to know what to machine to make it all work together into a 250 cid engine? I want to make 230 block into a 250 cid engine. Is there any machine work that needs to be done? Is there any thing different from a 230 Head v's 250 Head? | | |

The only difference is the crank and rods. Same everything else. Just has a 1/4" longer stroke. Actually 0.28" I just looked it up in the book. The heads are interchangable as I remember. Both are great engines and last forever. I would have a valve job done and port out the exhaust port or what is called gasket matching to help it get rid of the heat faster and makes your engine live longer. Its worth it. You know, if your crack is on the outside, usually it can be welded with a stick welder with a cast iron rod or nickel rod. My friend did on a large farm tractor and ran it for years. It was a big 6 cylinder diesel with a big crack on the outside. Just a thought. I wish you the best on wahtever you decide to do. Henry | | |

I have welded a few Large Marine Diesel & Steam powerplants in my day. To do the job right the engine needs disasembled. Pre-heat Block & control the cooling after welded. On top of this is the price of that 99%nickel rod. Point is if this was a $5000-100,000 + engine block. It might justfy the cost. As for your friends larg farm tractor Diesel. It was a good idea to try to weld it. Any Diesel is not cheap. | | |
