Just got my oak wood kit in. What is the best sealer to use on it? Also, have new angle strips...the old ones are welded in place, no problem there, but once they are cut out, do they hold up the bed sides? It looks like the bedsides are mounted from front and rear of the bed. I just don't want to cut out the angle strips to have the sides sag until i get the new ones bolted in. Truck is a 63 chevy sb/ss.

I used a good grade outdoor poly urethane and gave both sides of the boards about 10 coats with light sanding between coats.

I cut the welds on the old angle strips and then punched 4 holes in the new strip and bolted it to the side like they did in the early 50’s using SS bolts.

Thanks alot. I had planned to do the same with my new angle strips. I purchased all ss hardware and strips for the reinstall.

Look to the left of the forum page. You will see Mar K advertisement. They have some results of different finishes that they tested within their website.

yeah, i was checking that out earlier. I replaced the back bed panel...it was completely gone at the bottom where it makes the 90 bend. All the supports look good. The angle strips are def getting replaced. I got new ss bolts and strips & a new oqk kit, so it should come out pretty sharp w/a lot of patience and some time.

You really want to read the Mar K test results, the only finish that lasted was POR 15 black with baehr uv inhibited black. If your truck is going to be outside all the time none of the fancy clear coats held up.......here is how I am finishing mine because of those results.
