The PO swapped the orignal engine but, I can't find out what it is. http://s1130.photobucket.com/albums/m533/peterharbo/casting%20numbers/Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Peter | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | 3836848 is a 235 head used/made from 1956 onwards CON 3 serves no ID purpose G61 (head or block?) G = June 6 = 6th 1 = 1961 Photo 6 - the code at that location is an enigma. People have posted what they think is a meaning, but it does not appear to be a date code or a casting code. Here are locations of various head/block casting codes. | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 252 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 252 | Hi The G61 is on the block towards the bottom, on the starter side. It is just to the front of the CON3. Does it make a difference if it is on the block?
I looked at the link you sent for the casting numbers and came away only slightly less confused than when I started and that is why I posted my question.
Thanks for your help. I had no idea what I had. Peter | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | Did you find a block casting code?
Did you find a head date casting code?
Did you find and engine serial number pressed into the ledge in the block, just to the rear of where the distributor enters the block?

The problem was that I had couldn't decifer what they all meant. Like everyting else in life, it is easy if you know the answer. There is so much misinformation on the net. As you said there are a whole bunch of theories out there about the CON 3 which doesn't seem to have any purpose which only added to my confusion. I knew I could find the right answer from Stovebolters like who knew the real story. Thanks again for your help. Without it I would still be in the dark. Peter | | |
