Have you checked your ground? The unit grounds by contact to steering column. My column bushing is bad at the dash, so I guess my column wasn't a good ground path anymore. Of course, mine resulted in a blown indicator bulb in signal unit & a smoking wire. See if you have current from the flasher to the switch. If so see if you have current going to the respective lights. You also should have current to the switch from the stop lights when you press on the brake. The switch does not have to be grounded except for the pilot light in the switch.
