Wondering if someone can give me the part number for a replacement oil filter cartridge for my '50 216. It is a original AC filter.

Don - there can be different heights, check size of Purolator L30034 which worked for mine

That number sounds familiar. I think that's the unit I have in mine. It should come with two sizes of lid seal to fit different size housings.

I ended up using the Wix #51100. I have a Wix #51006 and it came with 2 gaskets (different sizes). Both filters seem to be really close to each other in size. I'm curious what the difference is between the 2? Maybe its just the cover gaskets?

I just fired up a 235 that I bought and oil overflowed the oil canister after I put in a new filter. It was old oil cause I didn't want to waste money on new oil if the motor wasn't any good. Anyway, I had A filter so I used it. Took out the filter and no overflow. Just bought a new filter and will try it again with new oil. By the way, that Kroil's oil used for stuck stuff is the bomb!!!! That's reall really good to u older (not old, just older!) guys. This 235 smoked like a train at first. I let kriols soak about a week and the first time I fired it up, no smoke!!! Unbelievable. good advice/info-thanks

That's the third or forth time I've hear Kroil's name used in concert with motor oil. Are you guys putting Kroil in with your motor oil????

And I don't understand why your oil canister would overflow, it's a sealed steel container. Unless of course you used a cartridge that was to tall, left out the gasket or din't tighten something down.

I don't understand a canister overflowing either. In addition to what Denny mentioned, it could be a warped lid or canister or no o-ring at the bolt. No overflow? Are you talking about a drain back to the block? That wouldn't cause a leak, but the oil wouldn't filter. I just can't picture the whole ordeal.

Guess I wasn't clear enough. Two seperate issues here. #1- I put a new filter in a 235 that had been sitting for who knows how long- that means unknown- and the oil overflowed out of the top of the oil filter canister. Same canister that was just working on my old 216. So I took the filter out and restarted engine without a filter. No more oil overflowing out of canister. Oil pressure is fine. I will install new filter and try it again. #2 I was just complimenting Kroils oil. I let it soak on top of the pistons for a week or so, not mixed with the oil. I never said that I did mix it with the oil. Some imaginary reading going on there. I tried to seperate the thoughts by saying "by the way" but that was apparently missed. Guess I should've (and will for clearity from now on)been more specific. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

Does it overflow around the edge of the lid or around the center bolt? If it's overflowing about the edge it's likely a bad gasket. Without a filter in place the oil will just flow back through the inlet holes instead of being forced up against the gasket.

Panhead59, although I clearly understand where you are coming from, the conversation, within a THREAD or TOPIC is usually assumed (and encouraged) to be pertaining to the topic specified. Which I'm sure is the only reason why Denny made the connection he did.

Just so your clear, you shouldn't use Kroil mixed with your oil.

Why not? I've been using Kroil for over 30 years, and a few ounces mixed in with the motor oil does an excellent job of cleaning up sticky check valves in hydraulic lifters, etc. It will clean out carbon deposits under piston rings, and maybe cause an old, worn out engine to start using oil if the only thing holding the rings against the cylinder walls is the carbon buildup under them. In a reasonably healthy engine, Kroil won't hurt a thing, and usually cleans up the insides quite nicely. 1/2 pint added to the crankcase about 500 miles before an oil change works very well for me, just don't run it as an all-the-time additive.
