I'm only running duals on mine, and they were a pain to get tuned right, 3 would be a nightmare, and not worth the trouble for a street driven truck. I notice you mention that your truck is a C40, perhaps you might consider swapping in a 261 from a C60 if you're looking for more power.

My machinist he specializes in racing motors has over 50 years under his belt.. Says pita!! but he can do with custom jets to keep reasonable fuel economy.. so let's see what happens?? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 843 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 843 | progressive linkage would be good for the street. Most of your driving on the centre carb, all three open at full throttle,if it is adjustable you can have three carbs open at the same time.I've heard that on tri-power some people have disabled the idle curcuits on #1 and #3,but way back I didn't know about this,so it wasn't done on mine.It could get rich in traffic.I wish I could remember the jetting, but sorry I can't. Have yet to try this myself. But I hear thats what they did with the blue flame six for more power. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 181 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 181 | What type of performance do you expect and also how many RPM's are you building the engine to get it's maximum performance at? If you are looking for a little better this will get that fore you. If you want to move up a bit and get into above average performance (acceleration and sustained power) then consider the cam and kit Patrick's offers as a complete kit. There are others out there too. But make sure you consider rear end ratio, transmission type and ratio's of each gear if it a manual type. And finally, how much do you want to spend? Buying a cam isn't simple if you look at all of the factors to be considered. Idles too rough and doesn't add much over a stock cam or a 261 grind. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 1,922 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 1,922 | If the idle and tip-in are bad after a cam install, you may improve it by: 1. increase the initial spark advance 5° or so, and deduct this from the mechanical curve. 2. is the throttle disc still in the correct position (.040" of transfer hole exposed), or did you have to jack it up? | | | | | Joined: May 2011 Posts: 5 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: May 2011 Posts: 5 | Hi thanks for the advice.. I'm thinking the 261 grind later.. Just want to maximize available power without going to crazy.. the machinist is reserved for later after the bodywork is done..and it runs pretty good with the split exhaust and single cab right now..am thinking of possibly using a twin carb setup instead of the tri setup I picked up.. I appear to have firewall issues with the tri carb setup;-) | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 1,847 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 1,847 | howard cams can grind you just about anything you want for these engines. | | |
