i have a 1954 3100 4 speed hydramatic.i would like to find a manual ,but the only thing i find is for gmc.are these the same trans?thanks for any help or suggestions.

There is a seven pamphlet set on-line: "1954 Servicing the Chevrolet Truck Hydra-Matic Transmission" . This should give you something to read and study. We can thank Greg Hill for scanning the pamphlets and Keith Hardy for web-hosting them.

Or are you looking for a manual transmission to replace it with?

the tranny is essentialy the same, the linkage to you six will be different because a gmc six is different than a chevy six.

the hydro's are rare enough. in a truck they are rarer still and in a chevy they are too rare. so that might answer some questions from blasphemers who imply you should replace it witha four speed.

Lots of literature out there. it comes up on ebay often enough so stick with what you have and dont be afraid

Those 7 booklets and the factory service manual are about the best you will find in factory documentation. There are some good GMC manuals out there and some of the transmission parts suppliers have some general service and adjustment manuals that show up on ebay regularly.
