Lots of work on Brad's part ... pure enjoyment (and references) for you!

For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2000 Posts: 136 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2000 Posts: 136 | I am in my fourth summer driving my rebuilt 57 http://www.stovebolt.com/gallery/reay_russell_1957.html and its shortcomings are getting annoying. LOTS of road noise, and it does not handle as easily and surely as I would prefer. I could invest megabucks in IFS and major drive train upgrades, but it seems that moving the 57 body onto something newer would be no more expensive, and would accomplish the goal. I search this page for S10 frame swap, and got pretty deep into a thread about AD to S10 swap until the AD Engineering site says they only do 47-54 swaps-no advice about TF or newer. Any recommendations for something like 1970s -1990s C10, Blazer, etc ?? | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | Check these guys out. This was posted in the Panels area. They have 2 kits, one uses a Caprice frame, the other uses a '73-'87 C/K frame. I have no personal experience with this conversion, but from what I saw, it looks very well engineered.

Wish I had that source when I did my 56 years ago. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2000 Posts: 136 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2000 Posts: 136 | Have made contact with Ed Lipinski at EZ Chassis Swaps, and I do believe he has exactly what I need. I mention that because it is something I personally would not like on my truck.

Just got my latest copy of CCT, and there is an article about replacing the original front suspension with a Fat Man IFS on a 73-87 C-10. It says that the original front crossmember is held in place with 14 bolts. What's the chance that I could remove my axle and springs, and install a 73-87 crossmember and suspension? That would give me the suspension and steering geometry I need, without the cost of a new IFS | | | | | Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 53 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 53 | I have put a 58 on a91 s10 frame and i found all the info I needed on the H.A.M.B. message board, it was a job but not near expesive as a sub frame and I didn`t have to raise the floor of the box. send me an e-mail and i`ll send you a couple of pictures of the finished truck. I don`t know how to put them here....... Mike B [email protected] | | |
