I know these questions have been exhausted but....I have a '48 3600 with a sm420 mounted to a 216. I have a 265 small block i want to replace the 216 with, do I need to swap bellhousings? Also will the stock radiator take the heat of the 265? It's not a hot rod engine just stock. I have a recessed firewall in my cab so I shouldn't have any fit problems. Decided to save the Big Block for another project. Well thanks in advance. Jess

You need an early V8 bellhousing that has the rear motor mounts on it with the 265. The radiator will be fine if it cooled the 216 adequately. Your left exhaust manifold will most likely not clear the steering, but you might try a right side manifold to see if it will clear.
