I'm having a hard time finding a power brake conversion kit that has a 1 1/8" master cylinder, i'm thinking about just buying a kit that comes with a standard 1" bore corvette style master and then using a later model 1 1/8 master, i need to know what year chevy trucks has power drum brakes with a 1 1/8" master?? if i can just get a year or a part number i can go to the flaps and life will be alot easier and cheaper. anybody got that info???

Hy panman, I have found a "corvette" master cylinder which has a 1 1/8" bore, Raybestos p/n MC39018 if you wanted to use this master cylinder with drum brakes you would have to install 10 p.s.i. residual pressure valves in the ports which feed drum brakes. If at some time in the future you would like to "upgrade" to disc brakes, you could simply remove the residual pressure valve from the circuit feeding the disc brakes, and plumb the line directly from the master cylinder to the calipers, hope that helps.

I have a '76 Corvette master cylinder in my '48 3800. The bore is 1 1/8". It is designed for 4 wheel disc brakes but works great with the manual 4 wheel drum brake set up on my 1 ton. The push rod hole on the master cylinder is deep so it accommodates the push rod assembly. The residual valve presented a problem with very hard brake pedal and poor stopping. I removed the residual valve and the brakes work fine. The bracket assembly and extended push rod were purchased from ECI in Connecticut. This enables you to continue to use your original brake pedal set up. This set up has been in the truck for 6 years with very good stopping.

thanks 3B that part number will make all the difference, i'm gonna have to get the pressuure valves for the front and back brakes, i got the big 14" drums with 2 1/2" shoes on the back and 12" drums with 2" shoes on the front, i'll never be able to upgrade to dics if you know how to do that i'm all ears, do i need to plumb the pressure valves close to the master or anywhere in the line to the drums? what size brake lines do i need to use with the valves? does it matter? i got the stock lines on the truck now i think they are 1/4" does this matter? is this master just an aftermarket universal master or is it for a specific vehicle alot of times the flaps guy's only can look it up if they know what car it fits. thanks again for the info

Brake lines are 1/4" all the way. You can get the '76 Corvette master cylinder from NAPA.
