For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 349 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 349 | I am working on my floorboards in my 59 Chevy and have a question on what appears to be some kind of vent hole on each side of the cab. The holes are roughly the size of cigarette pack that protrude down the side of the truck. They are up against each side, below the heat vents. Were these originally capped with something? Or just rust holes in my cab, that I am mistaken for something else. =) Any help appreciated. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 78 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 78 | Can you post pics? Doesn't sound like anything I see on my '59. 1959 Chevy 3/4-ton (pics posted soon)
I child-proofed my house, but my kids keep finding their way back in. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | "heat vents"? you must mean the fresh air vents on the kick panels, no heat involved behind them the cowl-top grill feeds into plenum chambers on each side, and that airway carries on below the kick panel vents to a drain at the bottom of the cab right where the lower rear fender bolt is - better start taking a closer look at how the cab is built, there's alway a lot of rust in those plenums, from the top rear fender mount point right to the bottom drain, and usually involving the lower hinge pocket as well .... probably pics in the assembly manual that show the area Bill | | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 349 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 349 | Thanks for the help, but I will post some pics soon to give you a better idea of what I am talking about. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2011 Posts: 1,363 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2011 Posts: 1,363 | Maybe someone cut holes for a speaker?

It is a small side panel that runs down to the floor and turns out about an inch, and meets the floorboard. The area that turns out to meet the floor is rusted out. Does anyone know what that piece is called? Again, I will try to get some pics posted tonight. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | sounds like the welded flange at the bottom of the kick panel, and rot in that area will require some DIY fabrication - a picture might get you more help
