Hello again, gonna convert my 41 from 6 to 12 volt. i have found wiring harnesses on ebay from 85 dollars, to over 500 dollars. why the disparity? would appreciate it if someone would recommend a good mid level harness. also, can i use the oem starter and generator? if they need rebuilding, where would i send them? thanx for your help.

Hy 1fletch, the disparity will be things like the number of circuits, original style wire vs modern materials, absolutely stock vs extras, that kind of thing. You can use your original starter on 12 volts if you keep the engine in a good state of tune, so you don't have to crank the snot out of it to get it to start. The generator on the other hand would have to have different field wirings installed, not really worth the money seeing as how there are thousands of 12 volt generators out there that could be installed in place of your 6 volt generator, not to mention about "upgrading" to an alternator, hope that helps.

Thanx Shark, I'm going with a "modern" harness. I think 11 circuits should do it. That will give me the option of 2 or 3 accessories if I remember correctly. With that in mind, how much should I spend? And, I'll find a 12 generator to install.

I just started installing an EZ harness in my 40. So far I'm impressed. It's a nice unit and I haven't encountered any issues so far. Mine is an EZ 20 mini. I think I paid $135 on ebay for it.

I used a Hot Rod Wires harness in my '56 and have another waiting to go in my '54 GMC pickup. It has GM color coded wires, larger wires than stock on things like headlight, alternator and ignition circuits and plenty of length to the wires for custom installation.
